UNCC Livelihoods Program
UNCC strengthens the economic stability of vulnerable refugees and host‑community families by providing practical livelihood opportunities that restore dignity and reduce long‑term dependency. By supporting households to earn an income, families can meet basic needs, keep children in school, and protect youth and child‑mothers from exploitation.
Across Uganda, Kenya, South Sudan, and DR Congo, UNCC provides training for small businesses, skills development for youth, savings groups for women, and support for climate‑resilient farming and home‑based income activities. Seniors and persons with disabilities are also included through accessible livelihood options that promote independence.
Our approach helps families build long‑term resilience, improve food security, and create safer communities for children and the elderly. Through these initiatives, UNCC empowers households to become self‑reliant and confident in shaping their own future.

UNCC supports vulnerable seniors with essential food assistance and simple, age‑appropriate livelihood activities, helping them maintain dignity, reduce hunger, and stay engaged in their communities.
“Before, we never left the house,” says Amina, one of three women in Rhino Camp now proudly known as the “Sunrise Sisters.” “Our lives were only housework, collecting firewood, and struggling to survive.”
Amina, Lillian, and Rose were trapped in deep poverty and traditional expectations that left little room for opportunity or independence. But with support from UNCC, the Sunrise Sisters received training in small‑business skills and a small startup boost to begin their first income‑generating activity.
“We started by selling our homemade snacks in the market. People used to laugh at us and say we were wasting our time. But now that they see our progress, they respect us,” Amina shares. Today, the women have a small stall and produce several types of snacks and handmade goods.
“Now we feel strong. We found confidence—and our voice.”
This UNCC initiative empowers women to overcome hardship, build income for their families, and participate actively in their community’s future.
