UNCC Health Program

Building Healthy Families. Strengthening Resilient Communities.

At UNCC, we believe that good health is the foundation for opportunity, dignity, and a better future. We work across refugee settlements and host communities to ensure vulnerable families have access to clean water, proper sanitation, nutritious food, and essential health services. Our programs focus on prevention, early intervention, and long‑term wellness, especially for seniors, children, child‑mothers, and persons with chronic conditions.

What We Do
UNCC delivers community‑led health initiatives designed to improve wellbeing and reduce preventable illness. Our activities include:

• Expanding access to safe drinking water
• Improving hygiene and sanitation in homes, schools, and settlements
• Supporting community waste‑management solutions
• Enhancing family nutrition and reducing malnutrition
• Preventing and managing chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension
• Supporting maternal and infant health for pregnant women and new mothers
• Raising awareness on domestic violence, exploitation, and child protection
• Providing psychosocial support to individuals facing emotional or mental‑health challenges

Our Impact
By addressing health needs holistically, UNCC helps families stay healthy, children remain in school, seniors live with dignity, and communities grow stronger together.

Impact Story – UNCC Health Program

Asha is a mother living in a rural settlement in Uganda. For years, her family struggled with poor health due to unsafe water, limited sanitation, and the daily challenges of displacement.

“We used to fetch water from the open stream,” Asha recalls. “We had no proper toilet, and the children were often sick with diarrhoea, fever, and stomach pain.”

When UNCC launched a community health project in her area, Asha was one of the first to join. She attended trainings on hygiene, safe water practices, small‑scale gardening, and household cleanliness. UNCC also supported her family with a water filter and access to a safe latrine.

“Since UNCC gave us a water filter and improved sanitation, our family is healthier,” Asha says. “My children are not sick like before. They can go to school, and we can live with dignity.”

Today, Asha’s household is thriving. With safe water, better hygiene, and improved nutrition from her small garden, her children are healthier and more active in school.

“UNCC brought real change to my family,” she shares with pride. “Life is better than before.”

This story reflects UNCC’s commitment to helping vulnerable families live healthier, safer, and more resilient lives across East Africa.
