Voluntary Repatriation & Reintegration Support

Voluntary repatriation
A Safe, Informed and Dignified Choice
Returning home must always be a voluntary and informed decision.
UNCC supports refugees who are considering returning to their country of origin by helping them access reliable information, appropriate referrals and protection support.
We believe every refugee must be able to make decisions about their future freely, without pressure, intimidation or discrimination, and with a clear understanding of available options and conditions in the intended area of return.
How UNCC Supports Refugees

Information & Guidance
Helping refugees understand where to seek official information about voluntary repatriation, documentation and available assistance.
Referral to UNHCR & Authorities
Connecting individuals and families with UNHCR, government authorities and authorised organisations responsible for formal voluntary repatriation processes.
Protection & Safeguarding
Giving particular attention to children, seniors, persons with disabilities, child mothers, women at risk and people with additional protection needs.

Family & Individual Needs
Listening to individual circumstances and helping identify concerns that should be raised with the appropriate agencies before return.
Documentation & Referral Support
Helping people understand what documentation or referrals they may need while leaving formal verification and approval to the responsible authorities.

Pre-Departure Wellbeing
Encouraging families to consider healthcare, medication, mobility, education, family unity and other essential needs before departure.
Community Feedback & Advocacy
Documenting concerns raised by refugees and, where appropriate, bringing systemic protection or humanitarian issues to the attention of responsible agencies.

Our Principles
Voluntary • Informed • Safe • Dignified
UNCC does not pressure or persuade refugees to return and does not make official determinations about whether a country or particular area is safe for return.
A person's decision to return should be based on reliable and current information and should be made without coercion.
Where UNCC identifies serious protection, medical, child-safeguarding or other concerns, we seek appropriate referral to qualified authorities and humanitarian organisations.

Special Attention to Vulnerable People
UNCC advocates for additional consideration for:
Seniors without immediate carers • Children at risk • Unaccompanied or separated children • Child mothers • Persons with disabilities • People with serious health needs • Women at risk • Families requiring protection support
Thinking About Returning Home?
Do not make the journey based only on rumours or informal information.
Speak with the relevant authorities, UNHCR or an authorised repatriation partner to understand current procedures, documentation requirements, assistance available and conditions affecting your intended destination.
Your future. Your informed decision. Your dignity.

Our Objecitive

To strengthen safe, voluntary, informed and dignified return and reintegration by connecting refugee communities with reliable information, protection mechanisms, appropriate services and responsible institutions.

UNCC does not determine refugee status, approve repatriation or declare destinations safe for return. These responsibilities remain with the relevant authorities and mandated agencies.

Providing structured channels through which refugees can raise questions, concerns and barriers affecting voluntary return.

What UNCC Brings

Refugee-Led Community Access

UNCC's strength is its connection with communities.

Our volunteers and community networks can help reach people who may have difficulty accessing conventional humanitarian information and services, including isolated seniors, persons with disabilities, child mothers, vulnerable families and people living outside easily accessible service points.

This community presence can support partners by identifying needs early and strengthening two-way communication between refugees and responsible humanitarian actors.

Priority Populations

UNCC seeks particular attention for people who may require additional protection or assistance:

Older Persons • Persons with Disabilities • Children at Risk • Unaccompanied & Separated Children • Child Mothers • Women at Risk • People with Serious Health Needs • Households Without Effective Support Networks

Partnership Opportunity

Working Together for Sustainable Solutions

UNCC seeks collaboration with UNHCR, governments, UN agencies, international NGOs, development partners, foundations and humanitarian donors to strengthen community-level protection throughout voluntary repatriation and reintegration processes.

Potential partnership areas include community outreach, protection referrals, vulnerability assessments, information activities, transportation support for vulnerable individuals, health and disability referrals, child protection, monitoring, data collection within appropriate data-protection frameworks, and reintegration initiatives.

UNCC can contribute the perspective and community access of a refugee-led organisation, while specialised and mandated partners provide the technical, legal, financial and operational capacities required for formal repatriation processes.

Our Commitment

Voluntary means voluntary.

UNCC will not pressure, persuade or incentivise a refugee to return against their wishes. Our role is to help ensure that individuals can access reliable information, raise protection concerns, receive appropriate referrals and make their own informed decisions in dignity.

Partner With UNCC
