UNCC Hands of Hope Soap Project

UNCC Hands of Hope Soap Project

Clean Hands. Dignified Lives. Sustainable Livelihoods.

Project Code: PAS | Uganda

The UNCC Hands of Hope Soap Project is a community-based humanitarian and social-enterprise initiative of United Nationals Countryless Children (UNCC). The project combines hygiene support with practical livelihood opportunities for Seniors (Age 65+), child mothers, vulnerable families, persons with disabilities, refugees and vulnerable host communities.

The project is proposed for Rhino Camp, Eden Settlement, Terego District and Kiryandongo, with humanitarian outreach to selected communities, refugee-serving hospitals and wards, and—subject to official approval—older prisoners and mothers in correctional facilities across West Nile.

Our Vision

A future where vulnerable people can live with cleanliness, dignity, improved wellbeing and meaningful opportunities for economic independence.

Our Mission

To produce safe, quality handmade soap and complementary household products while empowering vulnerable communities through skills development, livelihoods, humanitarian distribution and sustainable social enterprise.

About the Project

What the Project Does

UNCC Hands of Hope will establish community-based production hubs capable of working toward 500 quality handmade soap bars per production hub per production day.

The project has two interconnected purposes: provide free soap to people experiencing significant vulnerability and develop a sustainable production enterprise that creates training and income opportunities.

The proposed product range includes White Soap, Yellow Lemongrass Soap, Blue Soap, African Black-Inspired Soap, Oatmeal Gentle Soap, Aloe Vera & Coconut Soap, and an Unscented Gentle Soap.

Complementary livelihood activities may include household candle making and simple body-moisturising products, subject to applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

Why Soap Matters

For someone experiencing poverty or displacement, soap can represent much more than cleanliness.

A Senior should be able to wear clean clothes when attending church, mosque, a hospital appointment, market or community gathering. A child mother should be able to attend school, training or community activities with dignity and confidence. Vulnerable families should be able to maintain cleaner homes without having to choose between buying soap and meeting other essential needs.

Cleanliness supports dignity. Dignity supports participation. Participation creates opportunity.

Handmade With Quality and Care

PAS soap is intended to be handmade primarily from carefully selected plant-derived oils and natural ingredients, without unnecessary synthetic detergents.

Production will follow controlled formulations, batch recording, safe handling, appropriate curing, quality testing, packaging and applicable Ugandan regulatory requirements before products are released for distribution or sale.

Natural ingredients may include suitable vegetable oils, coconut oil, shea butter, oatmeal, aloe vera and lemongrass, depending on the approved formulation.

From Skills to Sustainable Income

The project is designed as more than a donation program.

Training → Production → Quality Soap → Humanitarian Distribution + Sales → Income → Reinvestment → Community Support

Child mothers, vulnerable women and other eligible community members can receive practical training in soap making, packaging, quality control, inventory management and basic enterprise skills.

Part of approved production can be distributed free to vulnerable beneficiaries, while another part can be sold to help maintain the project and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Supporting Seniors' Health

Where the project generates an approved surplus, UNCC proposes reinvesting part of that income into humanitarian priorities.

This may include assistance toward prescribed medication for eligible vulnerable Seniors, including medicines prescribed for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and mental-health conditions, as well as nappies and essential hygiene supplies for vulnerable babies.

Prescription medicines would only be supported through appropriately authorised health and pharmacy channels and according to valid prescriptions.

TargetPlanned CapacityPer production hub/dayUp to 500 barsPer hub/5 production daysUp to 2,500 barsFour hubs/dayUp to 2,000 barsMaximum theoretical annual capacityUp to 480,000 bars
