Our Mission, Motivation & Values

Our Mission

Our mission is to protect dignity, restore hope, and strengthen opportunities for refugees, displaced people, and vulnerable host communities, with particular attention to people at greatest risk of being left behind.

UNCC works alongside communities to identify needs, strengthen protection, provide practical humanitarian support, and advocate for fair access to services and opportunities.

Our work gives particular priority to seniors without immediate carers, children at risk, child mothers and adolescent girls, persons with disabilities, vulnerable families and other underserved members of the community.

We believe humanitarian assistance should do more than respond to immediate hardship. It should respect people's dignity, strengthen their ability to participate in decisions affecting their lives, and create pathways towards greater safety, independence, and hope.

UNCC — Leaving No One Behind.

Our Motivation

UNCC was built from lived experience, community responsibility, and a determination to ensure that vulnerable people are seen, heard, and supported.

As a refugee-led organization, we understand that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story. We recognize that people affected by displacement are not simply recipients of assistance. They have knowledge, abilities, aspirations, and the capacity to contribute to solutions affecting their communities.

Our motivation is therefore grounded in human dignity, compassion, inclusion, and practical action.

We work across cultures, nationalities, backgrounds, and beliefs without discrimination. We seek to reach people whose needs may otherwise remain unseen and to strengthen the connection between communities, humanitarian organizations, government institutions, and other partners.

We put this commitment into action through:

Humanitarian Assistance
Providing practical support in response to urgent needs, including food assistance, essential household items, hygiene support, clothing, bedding, and other humanitarian needs within our capacity.

Protection & Safeguarding
Working to strengthen the protection of children, child mothers, adolescent girls, seniors, persons with disabilities, and other people facing heightened vulnerability, while promoting appropriate referrals and safeguarding practices.

Seniors Care & Wellbeing
Prioritising older people, particularly seniors without immediate carers, through wellbeing checks, in-home support, advocacy, referrals, and practical assistance that protects dignity and reduces isolation.

Health & Wellbeing
Supporting community health initiatives, screenings, referrals, health awareness, vision and hearing services, and improved access to appropriate healthcare.

Education & Opportunity
Helping vulnerable children, adolescent mothers, and young people reconnect with education, skills development, and opportunities that can strengthen their future.

Livelihoods & Self-Reliance
Supporting community-led skills, livelihoods, and economic empowerment initiatives that help individuals and families strengthen their independence.

Advocacy & Accountability
Raising evidence-based concerns affecting vulnerable communities and advocating for fair, transparent, and accountable humanitarian responses.

Partnership & Community Participation
Working collaboratively with communities, government authorities, humanitarian organizations, civil society, donors, and other stakeholders while recognizing communities as partners in solutions rather than passive beneficiaries.

Our Values

Our values guide how UNCC works, how we make decisions, and how we treat the people and communities we serve.

They apply to our leadership, staff, volunteers, representatives, programs, and partnerships.

1. Human Dignity

Every person has value.

We respect the dignity, identity, experience, and aspirations of every individual.

We seek to ensure that people receiving assistance are treated with respect and are not reduced to statistics, labels, or circumstances.

We place people before organizational interests and recognize the right of individuals to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives.

2. Leaving No One Behind

We intentionally look for those who may otherwise be overlooked.

UNCC gives particular attention to people facing multiple barriers to assistance and participation, including seniors without immediate carers, children at risk, child mothers, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable families.

We recognize that equality does not always mean giving everyone the same response. People experiencing greater barriers may require additional attention and support to participate equally.

3. Community Leadership

Communities are part of the solution.

UNCC believes people affected by displacement and hardship possess knowledge, experience, and capabilities that are essential to effective humanitarian action.

We listen before acting.

We encourage communities to participate in identifying needs, designing responses, implementing activities, and evaluating their impact.

As a refugee-led organization, we believe humanitarian decisions should not be made about communities without meaningful engagement with those communities.

4. Protection First

Safety and well-being come before programs, publicity, or organizational interests.

We are committed to safeguarding children and adults at risk and to preventing exploitation, abuse, neglect, discrimination, and other forms of harm.

We seek to apply the best interests of the child in matters affecting children and to ensure that concerns requiring specialised intervention are referred to appropriate authorities or qualified service providers.

5. Integrity & Accountability

Trust must be earned and protected.

UNCC is committed to honesty, transparency, and responsible humanitarian practice.

We do not tolerate corruption, exploitation, deliberate misinformation, or misuse of resources intended for vulnerable people.

We strive to communicate truthfully about what we can and cannot provide.

We accept responsibility for our decisions and encourage communities, partners, volunteers, and stakeholders to raise concerns about our work.

6. Responsible Stewardship

Resources entrusted to UNCC must serve their intended humanitarian purpose.

Whether resources come from donors, partners, communities, or individuals, we recognize our responsibility to manage them carefully, transparently, and efficiently.

We seek to maximize the benefit of available resources while maintaining appropriate accountability.

We also recognize our responsibility to protect the environment and encourage sustainable approaches wherever practicable.

7. Inclusion & Non-Discrimination

Human dignity has no nationality, ethnicity, gender, disability, age, or social status.

UNCC works with people from diverse cultures, communities, and backgrounds.

Assistance and participation should be based on humanitarian need and appropriate program criteria—not favoritism, discrimination, or personal relationships.

We promote the meaningful inclusion of women, children, seniors, persons with disabilities, and other groups who may face barriers to participation.

8. Partnership

Lasting change requires cooperation.

UNCC recognizes that no single organization can respond to every humanitarian need.

We seek constructive relationships with refugee and host communities, governments, UN agencies, humanitarian organizations, civil society, educational institutions, health providers, donors, and the private sector.

We value partnerships built on respect, transparency, complementary strengths, and mutual accountability.

Where another organization is better equipped to respond to a particular need, we support appropriate referral and collaboration rather than unnecessary duplication.

9. Independence & Impartiality

Humanitarian need guides our work.

UNCC seeks to make humanitarian decisions independently and fairly.

We do not believe assistance should be conditioned on political allegiance, ethnicity, religion, or other unrelated considerations.

Our responsibility is to assess needs responsibly and serve people with fairness and respect.

10. Responsiveness

When people face urgent risks, timely action matters.

We seek to respond appropriately to emerging humanitarian and protection concerns within our mandate and capacity.

We recognize the difference between an immediate emergency requiring rapid action and a complex problem requiring sustained, long-term engagement.

We therefore combine emergency response with prevention, advocacy, referrals, and longer-term community development.

11. Learning & Innovation

We listen, learn, and improve.

Communities and humanitarian environments change. Our approaches must be capable of changing with them.

We encourage feedback, reflection, responsible innovation, and learning from both success and failure.

We are willing to challenge approaches that are no longer working and seek practical solutions that respond to changing community needs.

12. Hope Through Action

Hope becomes meaningful when it is accompanied by action.

UNCC believes compassion must translate into practical support.

Whether we are visiting an isolated senior, supporting a child's mother, advocating for a child at risk, assisting a person with a disability, providing essential items, or raising a community concern with responsible authorities, we seek to turn concern into meaningful action.

Our goal is not to create dependency but to strengthen dignity, protection, participation, and opportunity.

Our Commitment

UNCC's work is grounded in a simple principle:

People affected by displacement, poverty and vulnerability should not be invisible in the systems created to support them.

We will continue to listen to communities, identify gaps, advocate responsibly, and work alongside partners to reach people who might otherwise be left behind.

We listen. We protect. We support. We advocate. We act.
