Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

Safe Water. Better Hygiene. Healthier Communities.

Protecting Health, Dignity and Lives Through WASH

At United Nationals Countryless Children (UNCC), we believe that access to safe drinking water, adequate sanitation and essential hygiene services is fundamental to human dignity, public health and community wellbeing.

Refugees, displaced families and vulnerable host communities often face serious challenges accessing clean water, safe sanitation facilities and basic hygiene supplies. These challenges disproportionately affect children, adolescent mothers, older persons and people living with disabilities.

Our Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Program promotes community-led solutions that reduce preventable disease risks, improve hygiene practices and strengthen access to safe, inclusive and dignified sanitation.

Through awareness, practical assistance, community engagement and collaboration with relevant authorities and WASH partners, UNCC seeks to build healthier and more resilient communities.

Our Key WASH Priorities

1. Safe Water Access & Water Safety

Promoting access to safe drinking water through community awareness, identification of water-related risks and coordination with qualified water service providers and relevant authorities.

Our priorities include safe water collection, household storage, appropriate treatment practices and the protection of water sources from contamination.

2. Sanitation & Environmental Health

Supporting safer and cleaner living environments through sanitation education, household cleanliness, responsible waste management and community hygiene initiatives.

We advocate for safe, accessible sanitation facilities that protect privacy, dignity and public health.

3. Hygiene Promotion & Disease Prevention

Strengthening awareness of handwashing, personal hygiene, food safety, safe water handling and prevention of waterborne diseases.

We prioritise practical hygiene information that is accessible to children, caregivers, older persons and people with disabilities.

4. Hygiene Supplies & Dignity Support

Facilitating access to essential hygiene materials, including soap, water containers and other available sanitation supplies, for vulnerable households.

Through our developing Hands of Hope Soap Project, UNCC also aims to connect hygiene promotion with community skills development and livelihood opportunities.

5. Inclusive WASH for Vulnerable Communities

Promoting water and sanitation services that consider the specific needs of older persons, people with disabilities, adolescent girls, child mothers and families caring for young children.

Our approach emphasises accessibility, safety, privacy, dignity and equitable participation.

6. Community Engagement & WASH Partnerships

Working with community leaders, refugee welfare structures, local authorities and humanitarian stakeholders to identify WASH challenges, promote responsible water management and strengthen community participation.

We advocate for appropriate water quality monitoring, safe water distribution and accountable sanitation services.

Where We Focus Our Efforts

UNCC's WASH priorities focus on refugee settlements and vulnerable host communities in Uganda, particularly Rhino Camp, Imvepi, Eden Settlement and surrounding communities in the West Nile region.

Our wider humanitarian partnerships also seek to promote safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices in other displacement-affected communities across East Africa.

Our Commitment

UNCC is committed to promoting inclusive, sustainable and community-centred WASH solutions that protect health, reduce preventable illness and strengthen human dignity.

We recognise that lasting improvements require cooperation with qualified technical providers, government authorities, humanitarian partners and the communities themselves.

Clean Water Saves Lives. Good Hygiene Protects Communities. Dignified Sanitation Is Everyone's Right.
